About Svaroopa

~\~

Svaroopa® Yoga is a yoga that is accessible to Every Body.

Founded by Swami Niramalananda and based in the Hatha yoga tradition, Svaroopa® Yoga works at a slower pace to release the tension that sits deep in your core.

Core tension accumulates throughout our lives, contracting and compressing our spines. That tension extends through our whole body and expresses in all our organs and organ systems, causing physical ailment and mental fatigue. With propping support and one-on-one attention, each Svaroopa® pose is designed to open those deep core muscles that connect into your spine, allowing deep opening and release throughout your body and mind.

One of the primary principals in Svaroopa® Yoga is that "support equals release".

Sandy (Mukti) Carter is a Certified Svaroopa® Yoga Teacher (CSYT 700 hours) as well as an Embodyment® Yoga Therapist. She has been teaching Svaroopa® Yoga since 2007, and a practicing Svaroopi for over 27 years.

She was introduced to Svaroopa® Yoga 1997 by her first instructor, Yogyananda (Melissa) Fountain. Deeply drawn to and affected by this yoga’s profound, core-opening nature, she pursued her own practice, training and certification under Svaroopa®’s founder, Swami Nirmalananda Saraswati (previously Rama Berch). In 2015 she traveled with Swami to Ganeshpuri, India, where she experienced ancient traditions and teachings and received her Sanskrit name “Mukti", meaning "liberation", something that she aspires to share with all her students. She continues on her yogic path by training with Swami Nirmalananda through the Svaroopa® Vidya Ashram, deepening her professional skills, personal practice and meditation.

Sandy is delighted to have the opportunity to share the profound benefits of this style of yoga with the Nantucket community.

Looking for a home practice to deepen you experience of Self and well-being? Sandy will tailor a practice for you based on your body, personal needs, and lifestyle.

Three Ways To Get Enlightened
April, 2024

"You may have heard that enlightenment is easy — “You don’t need any practices, just know who you are. Just know.” Personally, I needed help with that. I needed lots of help! I got the help so I know how it works. After enough preparation, this is what happens: you just know. The Shiva Sutras describes this path to enlightenment, called Shambhavopaya. The word names the process: the upaya (path) of cultivating the knowing-feeling (bhava) of..."
